Is it really just about the dollar? Is it really capitalism and its institutions that facilitate murder and oppression? Damn....How Much A Dollar Cost?

This article has helped me gain insight into our legal system and its flaws... As a person of color, and a mother, I am leery of the police, because I believe things are not equal and when I read about the death of Floyd and the fact that both he and Derek Chauvin worked at the same nightclub, and had had a beef with each other prior to his interactions on that fateful day when he ended Floyd's life... I wonder why that hasn't been brought up and why they are not allowed to introduce racism as a possible reason for Floyd's death... I read he has a genuine dislike for people of color and asked that no corrections officer of color guards, him or transports him to and from the court... So many questions, so few answers... It has been widely reported that white supremacists have openly infiltrated our military and our police and because of this people of color are subjected to inhumane treatment ending in death... We’ve ALL felt as if we had no control over our circumstances. We’ve all experienced the need to live up to someone else’s expectations, and the frustration of not being able to “sync” with our own True Purpose... I thought the police are here to protect and serve every person that needs them regardless of color... Am I wrong?! If he is guilty then let him serve as many years as possible in jail because he swore to uphold the law and his sentence should reflect that... SOLIDARITY FOREVER!!

there i was feeling so strongly how much he needs to go to prison. you're not writing about prison except in passing, and indeed we'd probably agree impunity is one of the building blocks of abuse of power, so he should face punishment. but your focus in on police, and it valuable to lay out the arugment for derek chauvin as a decoy, a kind of metonomy for the institution. it's not obvious what will be needed for the alternative to police to come into being, i think you would say, within the structure of a capitalist government, that as long as their job is to protect capital, that whole power structure will ultimately stand behind them.
