Out In The Cold Images of Chicago public school teachers with cherry noses and windswept hair proliferated on social media this week, as educators protested their district’s reopening plan by teaching remotely from outside their school buildings. They declined to resume indoor teaching, flouting directives from Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her handpicked Board of Education. really excellent distillation of a complicated situation with multiple stakeholders and points of view/priorities. we know teachers' unions can be protectors of an old guard, among other things, but you make a strong case for these teachers, and the overwhelming amount of support they have from school officials, parents' groups, the most relevant people to weigh in. i've been following these teachers out in the cold teaching students in the cold and still being supported by parents, and it has seemed heroic from afar. this helps me understand it more fully.
Our children will be our tomorrows ... Our teachers are jewels that ignite the fires that fuel a student's thirst for knowledge, curiosity, and wisdom... When will we invest in giving our teachers the best care possible? I support all educators and so should everyone else... It is sad to think we consistently put their lives in danger with no regard for what they give in return... How can we expect them to educate and care about our children with no regard for their own wellbeing? Covid is real and they shouldn't have to stress about whether it's safe to go into unsafe conditions and possibly take it home to their families... Lightfoot should be ashamed of herself!!
