this is really an effective case, makes me feel agitated to help. the thought of kids in underserved schools struggling with meaningless testing right now, when their lives, like everyone's, are full of the heavy loss and isolation of covid. it does seem right to call it cruel. your point about the tests teaching them to fail, given history (of being ignored as learners) and the bias of the tests, how could it be other than an alien process. and your point about the gates's and all focusing on how education can be business ready to furnish the workforce they have so much power to shape, disgusting. corporate education is an oxymoron..

Teachers are the light that sets fire to students' dreams toward success... Teachers help students to believe in themselves and what they can add to the world... Eddie gets the opportunity to sit down with his former teacher, Marco, and thank him for changing his life. In a community of poverty and gang violence, Marco taught Eddie that being different can be an advantage and to do something good with it. “I saw myself reflected in something so positive,” Eddie tells Marco. When Marco shares that he is going blind, Eddie tells him, “You may be losing your sight, but you still have that vision.” Their heartwarming talk is full of empathy and compassion... Most teachers teach from their hearts and students gravitate toward success... Standardized testing brings with it so much stress that students' fears that they don't measure up are evident in their test scores...

Let's trust our teachers to set the stage for our children's future... SOLIDARITY FOREVER!!
